A Bear goes shark-hunting

Friday, March 6, 2015 0

It has been a few crazy weeks.  At work we got a new server and all the fun that came with that.  Being the nominated geek in the outfit I had to help with the install.  All good.
Eventually we got most stuff done - just as well because the shark hunting trip loomed large on the horizon.
We keep hearing fantastic - and almost unbelievable stories about our Western Island.  Yes folks in case you did not know this,  New Zealand consists of three Main Islands (the South and North are of course best known). Our 'Western Island' however is our best kept secret.  Folks living there actually believe that they are an independent state - but you know *winks* - who are we to argue with them.  This 'Western Island' is so special you find animals there you would not find anywhere else on this round globe of ours.  Thus many of us Kiwis flock over there.  In fact - soon there will be more of us living over there then back on home here, on our two main islands - remember - north and south?!!!
We even have a very distant cousin once or twice removed living on our Western Island.  Mr Koala as he is known, likes to climb the trees and generally is slow moving.  Seems in the heat that is all you can do - eat and seek shade - oh and have an occasional sip from some prescribed red medicinal drink.  Gotta keep your fluids up! So when he invited us for a family re-union of sorts - how could say no???
Just about to log off and shut down the PC.
just about log off and shut down the PC!!
Thus we are running round like well - like wild bees and do everything that one needs to do before going away - you know - locking up the secret honey supply and advising the beehive-factory to go easy on the honey-production for a while.
No point in keep on producing the nectar if we are not here to - urm digest it, right!?  In any case - I better log off work - there is still a million things to do - not to mention pack . . . . . .    before we catch the big bird.     I must remember to bring some essential gear - after all - the opportunity to go shark hunting comes along only once in your life-time!  *grins*
Any advice on clothing??  I think I am over dressed for the occasion, however you never know with our neighbours what they expect.
Those sharks better watch out - we bears are renowned for our fish-hunting skills.  One of our beary good Alaska friends once landed a giant Salmon who was about 4 meters long or so; hmmm maybe a teeny weeny bit shorter - maybe by a foot or so  - anyhow  . . . . . .

Have fun

How to have a daughter - thats not your own flesh and blood

Friday, August 7, 2009 0
Sigh - it had to happen later or sooner. You know me - fun loving carefree bear, always ready to play some tricks (my fav tv show - Candid Camera!!) - and my checkered past is catching up.
Anyhow everyone knows we got two boys - well urm they are young men by now - but NOT many know I also have a daughter but don't worry - I did not have THAT much fun - still the mind boggles. Never mind I can EXPLAIN . . . on how I have a daughter that is not my own flesh and blood.

See - many many years ago we lived in Wellington and when we returned to Christchurch, I came across this bloke who had 2 very young girls and recently divorced. Never met the mum for a while but the girls came to church regularly. After a while the arrangements of child care changed amicably and dad was off doing study some other town. Mum became the full time carer. By that stage I had already befriended the little girl and over time we became very very good friends.
I must have made a good impression. Cant imagine for one minute how - seeing that like Balloo I'm into having (some say too much) fun. *grins* Or was it the substitute male father figure?? *shrugs*

Still - some 18 years or so later (who's counting?) - we have kept up the relationship and I have been privileged to part of her live. Seeing her go through primary school / teenage years / overseas trip / sport/ new work placement and recently her engagement. I am honored to be sure.

And so yes my lovely cousin - I do have a daughter - albeit a honorary one but nevertheless a real person I treasure in my life.

Hmmm she's getting married sometime soon . . . . .
What does one give as present for that??? Me gets Parental Manual out - page 69813548567534 paragraph 2564 - I think it was . . . .

brb

Wohooo - had the dinner - lovely food and fantastic company!! It has been announced - I might have a wedding to go to next year! Only question is - what to give. Ok i got a year to ponder that - meanwhile - back to dishes

Cpap 200 - my vacum-cleaner

Saturday, November 22, 2008 0
OK, for the smart of you - this is my "vacuum-cleaner" and it is a sleep machine. It works on continues positive air pressure (whence Cpap) and stops me from snoring. I had it for a year now and it works well. It also means I no longer scare the living daylight out from my tent buddy when I stop breathing during the night. Stoppages could be as long as 90 seconds -which I am sure you agree is not good. Sleep apnea is not much fun and leaves you continuously tired.
Anyhow - I am now tied to a power out let at night which makes camping more interesting or should that be challenging. Rumor has it that my power source will be used to recharge cellphones and other electric gadgets on the camps. I also acquired the nick of "Darth Vaderbear" or other combos of that (Bear Vader?) :-)
The whole thing ways about 3 kilos and I have a 20 kilo limit on the plane . . . . .
Along with the lappy and cellphone and digi camera - no room for clothes when going camping!!

Animal antics

Wednesday, November 19, 2008 0
With all the stuff from the net - these appealed!

"Always watch your step"

"Remain calm, even if all seem absolutely hopeless"

"Take an occasional risk"

"Don't worry, be happy - smile occasionally"

The Bear and the Atheist

An atheist was walking through the woods, admiring all the “accidents” that evolution had created. “What majestic trees! What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!” he said to himself. As he was walking alongside the river, he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him. Turning to look, he saw a 7-foot grizzly bear charge towards him. He ran away as fast as he could up the path.

He looked over his shoulder and saw the grizzly was closing. Somehow he ran even faster, so scared that tears came to his eyes. He looked again, and the bear was even closer. His heart was pounding, and he tried to run faster. He tripped and fell to the ground. He rolled over to pick himself up, but the bear was right over him, reaching for him with its left paw and raising its right paw to strike him.

At that instant the atheist cried, “Oh my God!” Time stopped. The bear froze. The forest was silent. Even the river stopped moving.

As a bright light shone upon the man, a voice came out of the sky, “You deny my existence for all these years, teach others that I don’t exist, and even credit creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?” The atheist looked directly into the light and said, “I would feel like a hypocrite to become a Christian after all these years, but perhaps you could make the bear a Christian?”

“Very well,” said the voice.

The light went out. The river ran. The sounds of the forest resumed. Then the bear dropped his right paw, brought both paws together, bowed its head, and spoke: “Lord, for this food which I am about to receive, I am truly thankful.”
