the gang of 8 = spot the baby . . .
Well 'li'l ol Smilie - you asked why I needed the date - see image besides. . . .
The images will be printed and cut and glued on the inside of the lid.  I am sure you can figure out the rest.

As far as the inscription is concerned we agreed for that to be urm - yeah I can spill the beans - after all its in code and you will have trouble de-ciphering this - it reads (or will read once I got it engraved)  'AITSSS'

Further we decided to have 8 little stumpy glasses and we will have them sandblasted - each a very unique glass!!
And so the race is on . . . in a manner speaking. . .

(eeeek just realized this is not the up-to-date image - haven't corrected smilies date - mwahaaaaaa - begs for forgiveness . . . . )

urm - txt england -- ok the pre dial nr is . . . . . 4 somethin
You would not belief it - it is a really nice coffin and yes = we got several very strange looks by some people in the pub (but hey what else is new??? - after all you are looking at the blokes who still own a fairy outfit!!!)
Yet it is a very awkward box to carry.  Can't wait for the rustic handles to be mounted - then 2 of us can carry it properly next time!!!

getting there . . . . .   is half the fun
There is a nice color.  As you can see, we opted for NOT a creamy or pearly white lining- simply for the reason that we could never be innocent or pure - well - perhaps pure in our mischievous intents!! but innocent - cmon, really

Only question remains is ---- how do we spring Smilie from her majesties hospitality and get her to join us in our ventures????  Maybe I need to get some tips from Danny Ocean . . . .

A coffin fit for . . . . . . .

Meeh - On occasions I have been told I got a morbid sense of humor.  Can't think of why.  However I have got a set of friends who on occasion get me into trouble (and yes - I willingly play along - as it is always good clean fun).
A wee while ago we decided to have a special bottle of - urm - well - white drink of something rather and it needed a appropriate method of taking to camp or outings.  We agreed that we are allowed to drink from it ONLY ever if one of our friends crocks, well naturally, it lends itself to a coffin.  The remaining questions centered then around -- how large, timber or paper, handles or not, and a few others.  Thanks to a friend we finally got a working model.

However Vinnie was  N O T overly impressed with his dad when he suggested to try it out for size - (to see if the dimensions worked of course - no other hidden agenda), and it took a while and a lot of gentle persuasion for Vinny to agree and pose.  Suffice to say --  he wasn't a very happy chappie.

'Just testing dad - right?!?!?!?!'
'Yes son - of course!!'

'See ample space , plenty of leg room, this should do for your plans . . . . '

'Don't even think about making this my bed - NOW get me out of here, pronto please.'
'Yes son - hang a sec . . . . .'

Hmmmm  what to put on the copper plague???   Something that accurately represents the words - oooops nearly gave the secret away
Triple S???

Ah well - maybe we need a secret meeting again soon . . .  . . . . .

Unusual Bird in New Zealand

Thursday, August 5, 2010 0
oldbearnews editorToday for the first time in a long time I carried my camera with me on my walks and I was so glad that I did.
Here is me laboring away in the cold when this little bird came and landed almost next to me.  What surprised me was the range of colors.  Of a finch or sparrow variety - and quite possibly not a native New Zealand bird, I stood still for a sec and then remembered my trusty cannon.
One lens change later . . . . . . .

colorful stranger to NZ

Yellow wing feathers and a very distinct (although in the shadow) red part around its beak. Brilliant
Wonder what it is called and if you know - please let me know.
Cheers

Why it is hard to believe that the economy is in recession

Tuesday, August 3, 2010 0
oldbearnews editorI know - some of you will be total doomsdays folks and good on you. Here down under the economy hasn't been in a to bad a shape as some people tried to paint it, and I'd like to be more positive about our economy and it's recession.

My personal and totally non-scientific observation is based on discretionary spending and as usual takeout food tends to be one of the first things to suffer when things go pear-shaped.

Consider this - hang around in a shopping mall food-court and sit and observe folks -- say for two hours.  Recently I did that and saw one bloke coming with a full plate of Chinese something rather, take two nibbles and then he left.  His is an extreme sample - however there are way to many folks who buy food and then eat less then half of whats on the plate. They can't be hungry, and I am sure they can't all be fussy eaters!!  Now for someone who endured hardship as a kid - I don't like to see any food going to waste. Once you went for weeks being able to eat only potatoes - if that - you certainly appreciate the fuller menu on offer later in your life.
So by observing people and their behavior in the food courts -- I have noticed that there is an awful lot of wasted food going out in the rubbish.  Worst part is - its going to the dump, not even being recycled for some pigs like some places in Europe used to do.  Ergo - if you are so hard up in this declining economy I am certain you would want to eat what you paid for - otherwise it is a waste of your hard earned cash. Unless of course you are not so hard up.

Anyhow - this is a total lay-bears observation.
